[Photo| Courtesy]A Kisii court on Wednesday made landmark rulings that NTSA says will go along way in enforcing traffic rules.Godfrey Omwocha, the driver of Toyota Matatu KCL 139N belonging to Kisii Prestige Sacco was found guilty of driving an un-roadworthy vehicle as he had tampered with the speed governor of the vehicle. He was fined Sh200,000.Also, Josiah Mogire, the driver of motor vehicle KBR 954K Scania bus belonging to Nyamira Express was also charged for inconveniencing other road users by allowing his vehicle to stop in the middle of the road hence causing obstruction. He was fined Sh150,000.Since the roll of the Fika Salama Campaign, NTSA has handled over 1,000 cases of different traffic violations.NTSA said since the roll out of the campaign:1. 34 PSV, 42 commercial and 310 private vehicle drivers have been arrested for speeding ever since the campaign was started.2. 13 commercial, 57 PSV and 13 private drivers arrested for drunk driving.3. 147 vehicles impounded for operating without valid Motor Vehicle Inspection.4. 84 drivers arrested for failing to maintain lane discipline. "We continue to appeal to all motorists to be responsible road users during this festive season," the Francis Meja-led authority said in a communication.
