Kisii Governor James Ongwae's reelection bid has received a major boost following the endorsement by a section of the Gusii elders.
Led by the Men Welfare Association chairman Zachary Onyoni, the elders who were speaking at Mosocho in Kitutu Chache South on Thursday defended Ongwae's development record four years since coming into office.
According to the elders who asked the residents to give the Governor a second term in office come the August poll, Ongwae's rivals have wedged a propaganda war against him and that they have failed to appreciate what he has done.
The elders further asked politicians in the county to conduct peaceful campaigns to create a conducive business for business.
For a county that is seen as battle ground between NASA coalition and the rival Jubilee Party, the Governor race pitting ODM's James Ongwae and Senator Chris Obure who decamped to JP is expected to be an epic affair. The incumbent who is the key ODM man in the county has always exuded confidence that he will clinch the seat once again owing to his development record. But his rivals who include South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya have termed his tenure 'disastrous'.
