According to Jane Bosibori, the region has been hit by unknown crop disease that hindered high production in the last four years.

“We have been suffering from the anonymous diseases for some years now. It affected our output and we hope agricultural officers have done their part,” she said.

She said the maize crop has shown some good signs of promising yields this year given its shape and speed at which it is responding.

“This year things are quite different. We have seen the maize crop responding very well this time round. We hope it will reward us at the end of the year,” she said.

Joshua Ondimu also from the region concurred with Bosibori but cautioned his colleagues for being entirely dependent on the crop but instead look for other alternatives.

“The maize crop is doing very well this time round and I see some good outcome. But we should not entirely depend on the maize crop all times. We should revert to other crops so that we can deal with issues relating to hunger,” he said.

They urged the government to subsidize the prize of maize which is a staple food in the area since traders are exaggerating its prize.
