Farmers in Kisii County have been asked to take advantage of the Agriculture Finance Corporation (AFC) and other financial institutions where they can access loans to increase their agricultural production.
According to KTDA Kisii County Branch Credit Officer, Irene Mochoge, farmers should seek advice from various corporations that are committed in ensuring an increase in agricultural production by ensuring access to sustainable livelihood and food security.
She said many corporations and financial institutions give loans that one pays a low interest of 10 per cent where a farmer can access a minimum of Sh 200,000 and no limit on the maximum.
“Very many financial institutions provide loans to farmers at a low interest of 10 per cent, the farmers should take advantage of this to enhance their crop and livestock production,” she said.
The Credit Officer further advised farmers to insure their crops to avoid going a total loss in case of crop failure.
“Many farmers are continually counting losses during drought seasons simply because they can’t access compensation for the crop failure,” she said.
She advised farmers to seek farming advice from the Agriculture officers in a bid to improve their farming skills and make maximum profits.
The Officer asked farmers to make haste since many farmers from other counties have already benefitted and have projects already running.
