Gas suppliers in Kisii town and its environs, including Nyanchwa, Jogoo and Mwembe, were paralysed after the county askaris impounded gas stores and took away several gas cylinders on Monday.
This was after a county crackdown to curb the lawbreakers who sell and supply cooking gas without following the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) regulations.
Those who had no authorised licenses by ERC and the county government to vend gas and those who displayed full gas cylinders under the scorching were not spared.
Their cylinders were loaded into the county government pick-ups and taken to Kisii Central police station.
Speaking to one of the askaris, who withheld his name, he said that it is very risky to display the highly inflammable cylinders in the sun as they can blow posing dangers to buyers and the sellers.
"Gas cylinders should be placed in an enclosed area under a roof to avoid an explosion. In case of such fire, people will say that Governor Ongwae is not working," he concluded.
Kisii Central MCA, Kefa Mrefu, said that it is for the good of the residents and businessmen who are adjacent the gas stores.
