Kisii county government has been asked to collaborate with the national government and beef up security in market places and other gatherings.
Speaking in Kisii town, chairperson of chamber of commerce Kisii chapter, Benjamin Onkoba, said business people are operating in fear following terror attack threats issued by Alsbabab in the neighbouring county of Migori.
He condemned politicians who are using a section of business vendors to demonstrate over levy increment.
The chairperson told the business community to desist from being misused by politicians in protests whose main aim is to protect their illegally acquired public lands.
"I ask business vendors to ignore any calls for protests because the people who are using them have selfish interests," he said.
He noted it’s only the police who are mandated to enforce the law and not civilians.
He called on the police to arrest anyone inciting the business people to protest.
The business community has held demos in Kisii town since last month complaining of levy increment in the Kisii County Finance Act 2014 that was passed by the Kisii County Assembly.
However, they filed a case in court that has been slated for hearing on June 11.
