School heads in Kisii County have welcomed the direction by the president to the county governments to issue title deeds to all schools in the name of school committees and boards of governors.
According to the Head teachers, this will enable the schools know the property and size of land they own and avoid land grabbing cases that are rising day by day.
“The country is facing many land challenges and we want the land commission and the ministry of lands to ensure that the directive of the president is followed and is implemented” said Nyasagati Primary School head, Biliah Boyani.
She noted that many institutions across the country don’t have appropriate title deeds and this has led to land grabbing cases.
She also added that all elected and non-elected leaders to be sober when handling land issues as they are sensitive and should be handled with care.
“We want the government to follow the right procedures by joining hands with the government in safeguarding public land, rather than use confrontation,” said Boyani.
This comes days after the tear-gassing of Lang'ata Road Primary School pupils who were protesting the grabbing of their playground.
