A free eye medical camp at the Kisii Level Six Teaching and Referral Hospital saw over 100 residents receive treatment out of the 200 that turned up for the exercise.

Speaking during the last day of the eye camp at the hospital on Tuesday, head doctor Enock Ondari said among the issues that make people get eye problems is ageing, high blood pressure and injuries one gets on the eyes or around the eye.

Dr Ondari said cataracts which is one of the diseases they majorly focused on during the camp is one that causes a clouding on the eyes natural lens making people to have problems of having unclear visions, a problem he said, is treatable noting the various options of undertaking the correction.

"Cataract is a tissue that covers the eye lens causing the individual to have blurred vision or even complete blindness in some instances. However, surgeries can be conducted to rectify the anomaly," he said.

He also said medical intervention can be sought and after medication, the progression of the eye complications will be reduced.

He, however, said he was pleased with the turn out to the medical camp and called on the people not to take such exercises for granted.
