A section of Kisii rental houses agents in Makongeni are on spot for failing to refund agreed house deposits after tenants vacate.
Various tenants speaking to this writer on Wednesday, expressed the problems they pass through in houses managed by agents especially when it comes to vacating the said houses.
"These agents sweet talk you to get into their houses promising to refund your money at the end of your tenancy only for them to give you problems when that time comes. You keep on going for your money to no avail,"Cecilia Nyambura a tenant at Hazina Estate said.
Magdalene Syombua lamented: "Last month Muthawi agencies ran away with my five thousand promising to pay only to postpone the date whenever I go for my money. Most of these agents are crooks and silent thieves."
Others claimed that the agents have many hidden costs that they never reveal to you till you move into their houses.
"I knew he was looking for a way to take away my money by claiming that i failed to sign the tenant agreement which he never even showed me,"Joseph Kanyi a tenant said.
The agents are said to be very rough when it comes to collection of rents at the end of the month but never respect tenants rights.
David Migwi has promised to go to court over his seven months pending refundable deposit in an agency he failed failed to reveal its name for fear of reprisal.
"I must get my rights now and because the agent has failed to honour their empty promises I will now leave them to face the law," he said
