Officials of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) in Kisii county are calling on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to withdraw the Teacher Performance contracts.
Speaking on Monday, Mr John Ayega Makori, who is the Kisii KNUT chairman said that the performance and development comtract forms are meant to mount pressure on teachers other than help improve their skills.
This according to him, was driving their attention from concentrating on class work to filling the forms.
Performance contracts according to TSC are used to denote or promote teachers and are also used in categorizing their payment groups.
"Teachers are human and should work without pressure. TSC should drop the performance contract thing so that teachers concentrate on their jobs well," Mr Makori said.
TSC advises teachers to fill the performance contract forms in order for the teachers' employer tracks on improvements and teaching methods they use while in class.
"We teach to our level best but we are blamed when the student fail regardless of how hard we try to establish the cause of the failure," said Lisha Montanya, a primary school teacher.
Since Dr. Fred Matiangi was appointed the cabinet secretary for Education, the education system in Kenya has undergone a great transformation that does not spare teachers who sleep on their job.
