On Thursday, many speakers who spoke on a burial ceremony of former Kenyenya Youth leader Peterson Ongiri were unanimous that a political pact that would increase the bargaining power of Abagusii was essential.

They urged leading politicians from the region to convene a meeting that will unite all politicians regardless of their political affiliation.

“Time and again I will not hesitate to say that Abagusii needs a single political party that can unite us besides improving our chances of leading the nation. We have no time therefore, our leaders must spearhead the agenda,” said Ondieki Morumbwa.

“If we continue relaxing, we will never get senior government officials because we normally go to an election when divided. It will be essential if our political leaders join hands and bring the community together,” added Samuel Kombo.

However, speaking at a different function at Omoringamu village, Bomachoge-Chache MP Simon Ogari opposed the move and said Kenya does not need ethnic oriented parties.

“It is an irony when we want to create peace in the nation; people are busy calling for a political party. Kenya is a democratic country and citizens have powers to choose a political outfit that they are comfortable with,” he said.

Gusii region is a swing region and they have never voted for a single presidential candidate till 2002 when Simon Nyachae won the region with his Ford People party.
