Kisii County Commissioner Chege Mwangi has cautioned politicians against inciting members ofthe public during calamities.
Speaking on Monday at Gusii Stadium during the marking of Madaraka day, Mwangi said anybody involved at inciting others will be arrested and charged in a court of law.
“There are some individuals who are inciting the youths more especially the Boda Boda operators to cause trouble during incidents. We have seen this during fire outbreaks and accidents and for that matter, I warn them against misusing the innocent people for their selfish gains,” cautioned Mwangi.
His remarks were supported by Governor James Ongwae who said he will not condone the behaviour of politicians stage-managing riots to create disharmony in the town and other places in the county.
“We have identified politicians who incite other people against causing trouble in places where incidents have taken place be it fire or accident. I cannot sit back and watch them taking advantage of calamities to create disharmony through hired youths,” warned Governor Ongwae.
On security, the county commissioner advised Kisii residents to know their neighbours better through ‘nyumba kumi’ initiative as one of the measures of dealing with insecurity menace in the country.
He urged residents against incriminating people of Somali origin following terrorist attacks orchestrated by the Alshabab who charge their mission along religion lines.
“It is wrong to loot and destroy properties of business investors from the Somali origin because of the Alshabab sect. we will not allow to be divided by religion or race. Therefore, I ask Kisii residents to embrace harmony because by incriminating these investors will affect the economy of the county. Remember Kisii county controls 60 percent of economy in Nyanza region,” warned Mwangi.
