Top Jubilee leaders from Kisii County have differed on the exact venue where President Kenyatta will address residents moments after he officially opens the newly built Kiamokama Horticulture Market.
President Kenyatta is set to visit the region for the third time since he was elected in 2013, with certain leaders scrambling to ensure their regions reflect in the President’s itinerary.
On Thursday, Bobasi MP Stephen Manoti differed with his Kitutu Chache North counterpart Jimmy Angwenyi on the venue during Monday’s visit, with Angewnyi saying he was validly elected on TNA ticket hence he was mandated to advice Jubilee on the region that would be visited.
“I am a TNA MP and the President comes from my party. For the last two occasions he had come over without going to Jubilee strongholds in my constituency. I want to reiterate that he has to visit Marani Township and no one can change that,” he said during a burial ceremony.
However, Manoti said the president’s itinerary would not be based on party lines and the President was free to visit any region in the lager Kisii County.
“He is the head of state and he can visit anywhere in the county. Let us not bring party politcs here. However, I want to appeal that he comes to Nyamache (Bobasi constituency) because no sitting president has ever visited the area,” he said.
The President’s itinerary remains scanty, with sources from the office of the Deputy Governor indicating that he will open the market before proceeding to Kisii town to meet elected leaders from the region.
