A Kisii man was on Sunday hacked to death in his house at Keberesi Village, Kenyenya sub location, Gucha Sub-county, Kisii County.
According to Kisii County Police Commander Ms Agnes Mudambi, the man was attacked and killed by unknown people.
She told the reporter that the incident was reported by Charles Mainga, the assistant Chief Kenyenya sub-location.
"We received a phone call from the assistant chief at about 11.45 p.m. last night that one Evans Nyandondi Omweno aged 26 years was attacked and killed inside his house at Keberesi village within Kenyenya location about 10.00 p.m.
Mainga said the deceased's mother, Kemunto Omweno and her son, Bernard Mogoi, raised the alarm upon discovering the body in the house shared by the two brothers.
"On rushing there, I found a crowd of neighbours and other villagers gathered at the home. I then notified officers from the Kenyenya Police Station," said Mainga.
He said the deceased was lying in a pool of blood in the house.
"We found the late Evans lying prostrate in the living room of the house he shared with his brother. From the blood we saw on the floor, it appears e had bled profusely," said the administrator.
Officers from Kenyenya Police Station visited the scene and took the body to Nyamache Level 4 Hospital.
"When my officers arrived at the scene, the deceased found to have been hacked to death. He succumbed to injuries including deep cuts on the head, neck, the rear side of hid left shoulder and elbow," she said.
Ms Mudambi said the weapon suspected to have been used in the grisly attack was recovered at the scene.
"On carrying out further investigations, a blood stained panga was retrieved from a pit latrine within the compound," said the police boss.
"The injuries on the deceased were consistent with a surprise attack from behind, meaning he could have been attacked as he entered the house," said Ms Mudambi.
Ms Mudambi confirmed that police had arrested the brother of the deceased and he was currently in custody helping with investigations.
"The deceased's brother namely Benard Mogoi Omweno is held in custody for interrogation," said Ms Mudambi.
According to the assistant chief, the two brothers had previously quarreled over the proceeds of a land sale in their home.
"The suspect was allegedly denied a share of the proceeds when the family recently sold a piece of land. He had also threatened to kill his mother at one time but was restrained by relatives and neighbours," said Mr Mainga.
