Parents from Kiogoro ward in Kisii County have been challenged to support their children till the highest level of education in a bid to fight poverty, diseases and ignorance.
Speaking at Kiogoro ward on Sunday during the delivery of four scholarships to students who had managed to be selected to join various universities on government sponsorship, are MCA Samuel Apoko said the level of education in the ward had diminished with many children bowing out of school after their secondary level studies.
The controversial MCA, who was once on the hooks of law for allegedly talking ill of President Uhuru Kenyatta, said his leadership will support education in a bid bid to change the perspective in the society.
“Education is key in the society and I am a worried man that most of our children aren’t taking it seriously," he said.
"Finishing secondary level isn’t a big deal. We want to see more children enrolling in universities and colleges and it’s upon us as parents to support them for the sake of the future generations."
He said he is committed to supporting the education system and vowed to use the county resources to support needy children.
“The money we get from the county for development will be hugely invested in education. I want students to apply for bursaries because I believe that with education, the village will be brighter than it is now,” he added.
Mr Apoko gave a four-year scholarship to four students who will be joining various universities across the country and challenged them to be good ambassadors to the ward and the county at large.
