A section of Kisii Members of County Assembly have asked the county government to allocate more Ward Development Funds (WDF) to wards based on the size and population of the wards.

Speaking on Thursday while issuing bursaries to Sengera-Bosoti ward students in Bomachoge Chache Sub-county, area MCA Timothy Nyarang’o said the equalization fund will enable bigger wards to meet its needs.

“I laud our governor James Ongwae for increasing the WDF kitty from 1 million in the last financial year to 3 million in this year. This will enable our students and other projects in our wards get on the way,” said MCA Nyarang’o.

He added, “However, I ask the government to consider adopting the parameters to be used when allocating the funds. For example, the size of the ward and population will be some of the key factors to deem.”

The MCA challenged the government to fund polytechnics in the villages so that students enrolling in these technical institutions can get competent knowledge to help them empower themselves economically.

On his side, Magenche ward representative in Bomachoge Borabu Sub-county, Timothy Ogugu, promised to fund the bodaboda sector in his ward so that the youths can initiate projects to enable them prosper in their lives.

The county government increased the funding from one million in the last financial year to three million in this year, and it has also promised to increase the funding in the kitty to five million in the next financial year so that wards can get enough money for development.
