Undisclosed number of Kisii County MCAs are reportedly locked out of the ongoing conference in Mombasa after being unable to pay the mandatory subscription fee, a senior officer from the County government of Nyamira has revealed.
The MCAs reportedly squandered thousands of shillings given to them by the county assembly leadership hence failing to pay the required fee.
According to the officer who spoke to the press on condition of anonymity, the MCAs have now turned to using badges prepared for MCAs from neighboring Nyamira who had paid for the event but went out for an official tour in Dubai.
“I want to confirm that a number of Kisii County MCAs are unable to attend the conference because most of them didn’t pay the mandatory fee for the conference as required by the County Assemblies Conferences statutes,” said the officer.
“Most of them squandered the cash and have reverted to borrowing badges meant for five of our MCAs who had paid but left for another conference in Dubai,” added the source when asked about MCAs from Nyamira missing in action yet they were paid allowances.
However, the reporter could not establish immediately the claims since efforts to reach county Speaker Ondieki Kerosi and Majority Whip Henry Moracha were futile by Thursday evening.
