The modern Kisii mortuary construction is underway after it had stopped due to lack finances.

The morgue which will serve Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and medical students from Kisii University.

It was supposed to be launched and be operational by December 2017 but failed.

Currently, Kisii level 5 hospital has a small mortuary with poor cooling systems, that accommodates twenty bodies only the new facility will manage 100 bodies. 

According to Mr Thomas Kenyenye, the mortuary is 80 percent done and what remains are the final touches.

"I am in charge of constructing the parking area and we will be through very soon," Kenyenye said.

The new mortuary has a large body dressing room, a spacious body preservation room and two other floors for classes and offices.

The project which is under the Kisii county government.

Private hospitals such as NEMA, RAM and Christa Marianne hospitals have in the past provided alternative mortuary serves to the people of Kisii.
