A petition filed by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu seeking to remove Chief Justice David Maraga from office has elicited mixed reactions from the members of the Kisii community who are now asking the lawmaker to withdraw the petition.
In his petition, Wambugu claims that the Chief Justice presided over a 'judicial coup' following the Supreme Court's decision to annul President Uhuru Kenyatta's win.
But according to the lawmakers drawn from Kisii and Nyamira counties, led by Jimmy Angwenyi, the petition is in bad taste considering that it was made by the Supreme Court Judges and not Chief Justice Maraga as an individual.
"Even President Uhuru Kenyatta did not agree with the decision that nullified his win on August 8. The petition against Maraga is in bad taste and should be withdrawn by the end of today (yesterday, Thursday)," said Jimmy Angwenyi, the Kitutu Chache North MP.
Justice Maraga has been under constant attacks from the Jubilee leadership with President Uhuru Kenyatta threatening to 'fix' the Supreme Court if he is re-elected.
