Nema’s Chief enforcement officer Robert Orina, has identified Kisii as one of the notorious regions which has defied the polythene paper ban rule five months after it took effect.
Mr Orina was speaking in Nakuru county where he led a team of Nema officials in an operation to raid the illegal plastic bags businesses in the towns.
Bussines owners in Daraja Moja and Kisii town market, have been using paper bags to date but secretly.
NEMA has blamed the neighboring countries especially Uganda, where plastic bags are not illegal, for the use of the bags in Kenya as traders import them in bulk.
"We have information that the plastic bags are still in circulation. We shall keep vigilance and ensure that the illegal business comes to an end,” said Mr Orina.
Several suspects were arraigned in Kisii court in November 2017 after they were found using the plastic bags in Kisii and Nyamira.
Other towns that were said to defy the ban are Kitale, Narok, and Kakamega.
