The decision by State House to invite a section of MCAs from Kisii and Nyamira counties has elicited mixed reactions from residents of the two regions.
In a fierce debate on Gusii County Youth politics forum, commentators openly differed on the move with some accusing the government of reverting to old ‘Kanu’ theatrics of rewarding loyalty.
“It’s absurd that the President can summon MCAs all the way to Nairobi in the name of discussing development. These people are supposed to legislate in the counties because we have MPs who can negotiate on our behalf. These old Kanu tricks must be resisted,” said John Moasa.
“I personally dismayed because it doesn’t make sense at all. The President should tour the region and gahter information for himself instead of calling a few select individuals to State House without a clear agenda,” added Marani MCA Dennis Ombachi.
However, some of them including Maureen Moraa supported the move saying it was timely since it would give the MCAs a direct chance to present people's grievances to the President.
Gesima MCA Ken Atuti added: “there is nothing wrong to hold a meeting with the President. He is a unifying symbol and there is a lot MCA can discuss with him”.
On Thursday, Uhuru hosted a section of MCAs from the two counties for breakfast.
He is expected to tour the South Nyanza region next week before heading to Western Kenya the week after.
