Motorists in Kisii town and its environs have been warned against defiance of existing traffic rules following rampant cases of accidents in the region.
Speaking today in his office, Kisii police boss Tom Mutsya said many motorists have been ignoring traffic rules, something that has resulted in several cases of accidents.
According to the OCPD, at least 20 people have been admitted at Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital for the last one week with two more succumbing to their injuries.
“I would like to caution motorists. Many of them are driving ineffective vehicles without speed governors and that is why we have continued to lose lives," he said.
"If you go to Kisii Hospital at the emergency wards, you will see the essence of obeying traffic rules.”
“Of course it is the responsibility of the police to ensure that traffic rules are followed but remember they are not everywhere.”
He said his officers will be executing a crackdown on major highways leading to the town from today and apprehend notorious drivers.
“I am not seeing them surviving from today. Whoever will be arrested will be arraigned in court to answer charges and that is why I am calling upon my officers to be vigilant and deal with law breakers decisively,” he said.
This comes a few days after a tragic road accident at Jogoo estate in the town and another at Ngangusu that claimed lives of people besides injuring scores of others.
