They claim the youth no longer go out to work or school to read.

"Since my son started indulging in gambling he has put very little effort in working. He started by asking me for Sh50 which at that moment I didn’t know it was used for betting," said Beatrice Okoth.

"The behavior is so much rooted in him that he wakes up every morning to go to the cyber. I am worried that this culture will lead to the rise of other defiant behaviors such as drinking,” said Okoth.

Some parents raised concern that their children conn them of trips and other activities so as to get money to bet.

“My son once told me they had a trip and I paid Sh500 only to find out after a week that there was no trip but he had used all the money to bet,” said Hillary Ondiso.

They claim the betting company is taking advantage of their customers and steal from them.

“No one starts a business to make a loss. They know how to lure the youth. Those betting odds are calculated against them,” said Felix Nyambane.

They now want the government to come in and address the issue before it is too late.
