Bomasigi west ward representative Peter Omari has called on parents to put more effort in educating their children.
Speaking when he gave out cheques from the Kisii County Bursary kitty to different schools, Omari said that the only way to help the current generation and the future generation is by educating children.
The Member of County Assembly also thanked Kisii County Governor James Ongwae for increasing the money from one million shillings to three million shillings in the current financial year and also asked him to increase the money to five million shillings in the next financial year.
“I want to take this moment to specifically thank the county government and our governor for giving us money for education bursaries. We are now seeing how devolution is helping our children in terms of education,” he said.
Governor James Ongwae said that his government will increase the amount to support education even if it is not yet devolved noting that the number of children from poor homes is high.
He also said that he is working towards ensuring the money is increased to five million per ward in the next financial year adding that only education can save the people of Kisii.
“I have seen that three million per ward is not enough and I am now planning to increase the amount to five million per ward because I believe only education can save Omogusii,” said Ongwae.
