Kisii police commander Simon Kiragu has urged parents to take care of their children during this rain season to ensure they are safe.
Speaking to this writer on Thursday in his office, Kiragu said the risks of floods, which have been experiment in different parts of the country, are many and urged parents to be cautious with their children.
This is after a 12-year-old child from Daraja Mbili was swept by floods on Wednesday evening on his way home from school, after heavy rains pounded the area in the afternoon.
The body of the minor was recovered by the police at River Riana in Bonchari Sub-county on Thursday morning after a night long search.
“The boy, in standard four at Bosire Academy was overwhelmed by floods after storm rains in the evening hours as he left school for home,” he confirmed.
Kiragu disputed information that had circulated early that more than two pupils from the school had drowned.
“So far, the information we have is that one pupil was swept off by floods as he walked home and not two,” he said. “I have instructed my officers to help in the search,” he said.
This comes three weeks after the body of a 35 old man from Nyamira was recovered at Kegati River, after he drowned in Kemera River in Nyamira County.
