Addressing the press in her office, Kisii County police commander, Agnes Mudambi said those who incited the pupils would be held responsible.

"We are conducting investigations to know who exactly coached and led pupils to demonstrate against a teacher. Of course, the report we have is that parents were at the forefront," said Mudambi.

"What if a child was knocked down because they were demonstrating on a highway," questioned Ms Mudambi.

She added: "Those who will be found to have committed the crime will be held responsible. If Indeed the BoM was involved in the demo, as alleged, then they overstepped their mandate. They are required to be neutral in handling any issues affecting a school."

She warned parents against misusing their children and instilling bad morals in them.

"Children grow up the way they are brought up. If parents encourage their kids to protest waving placards and chanting against a teacher," said Mudambi.

"They will grow up knowing the only way to solving an issue is through demos. They will even protest against you in your homes," the police boss said.

Kisii Central sub-county Director of Education Charles Nyaribo also condemned the demo accusing the school board of noncompliance with the law by engaging pupils in a demonstration.

"I will work on a report and then hand it over to the County Director of Education, who with the County Education Board will decide the next course action against whoever will be found to have misled the pupils," said Nyaribo.

Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi, while addressing the pupils and parents at the county offices, asked them to remain calm:

"We will follow up the issue though education is not devolved, and ensure a solution has been found," said Maangi.

The school's parents rejected the new head teacher who was posted in the school early this term.

They accused him of being a drunkard and also alleged he has been performing poorly in his former destinations.

"The head teacher is a drunkard and has a poor track record in terms of performance. He is being imposed in our school contrary to an earlier communication of promoting Esther Nyagucha, who has been heading the school on an acting capacity," said a parent.

The school's former head teacher, Albert Ondimu, was elected Kisii Central KNUT branch executive secretary early this year.

The parents demanded reinstation of Ms Nyagucha, to head the school.

She had already been transferred and promoted to head a different school within the sub-county.
