The centre will train farmers on harvesting rain water, construction of fish ponds among other things at the Itierio ELCK Primary School.

Speaking to the residents at the institution when he launched the project, Kisii Governor James Elvis Ongwae also called on the Israeli government to help the county of Kisii to set up a scientific storage facility where scientific equipment that will be used to train farmers on modern farming techniques will be kept.

The governor called on the residents to embrace new and improved methods of farming noting that the amount of land available for farming was decreasing due to the rate of population growth.

He says it is only through modern farming that food security can be ensured in the county.

“In Gusii we have no land and soon we will have no place to plant maize, vegetables and other foods and that is why we should embrace new technology in farming like the greenhouse technology where you only need a small piece of land and you can be able to get fees to educate your children,” he said.

According to Israeli ambassador to Kenya Yahel Vilan who attended the occasion, his country will partner with the county government of Kisii in undertaking various development projects.
