The Kenya Agricultural Research and Livestock Organisation (KARLO) of Kisii has today held a ploughing contest.
The ploughing competition sponsored by KARLO and the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) South Nyanza attracted participants from Kisii and Migori counties.
The event held at the KARLO grounds was graced by Kisii University’s Dean School of Agriculture and National Resources Dr Evans Basweti. Dr Basweti said the purpose of the competition is to improve the technology used in food production and reduce hunger at large.
He added that the competition aims at helping in minimum tillage by using the little nutrients and facilities available to maximise food production and security.
The event that had four categories of competition, hand digging junior and senior category, oxen ploughing and tractor ploughing saw the first three winners from each category take home certificates and cash prizes as other participants were awarded certificates.
The winners will represent the region in national competition next month in Nakuru.
