However, there was a rare praise for Chepilat police officers who were lauded for carrying out an operation that saw five members of the suspected gang taken to Kisii Law courts awaiting prosecution.

The deceased Jane Onsinyo and her younger brother Pius Onsinyo are said to have succumbed to their injuries at Keroka District Hospital after being attacked by the gangs at midnight in their sleeping room.

“I want to thank the police for working with us to ensure justice prevails. It is wrong for people to kill innocent children their looting mission. They have to face the law and the truth shall come out soon,” said Richard Ondieki.

“This is a great job by the police. We may have lost two of our own but I think residents will no longer be subjected to fear since they are in police custody. This is a good beginning for the police,” said Joseph Ratemo.

Sergeant Robert Korir who made a surprise attendance to the funeral said his officers will continue pursuing criminal elements in the region.

“As police we will not tire up. We have a mandate of ensuring all citizens are secure and we have to do that. I challenge all of you to report suspects to the police for further steps,” he said.
