Residents of Menyinkwa village in Kisii County from Monday evening to early Tuesday morning engaged in chaotic demonstrations.
The reason behind these demonstrations led to the destruction of property belonging to one family at the neighbourhood over what they termed as offering a young girl as sacrifice to the devil.
The three-year-old Sherwin Kerubo's body was found at Dennis Ragira's homestead dumped in a pit latrine that was under construction after sources revealed to the villagers about the whole ordeal.
According to Kerubo’s mother, the little girl was out playing with her friends when she suddenly disappeared.
After days of searching for the girl, Kerubo’s mother was told that her daughter was last seen in Ragira’s compound.
After receiving this information, the rowdy residents then gathered at the Menyinkwa stage and went to the man’s house where they did not find him but found his mother instead. They then beat the mother who was rescued by an anti riot police.
On Tuesday morning, residents gathered to see the pit where Kerubo’s body was dumped claiming that she was offered as sacrifice as the alleged killer had been charged with cases of sorcery in the past.
The accused has since disappeared from the village and police have now launched investigations into the matter.
