Residents at Ndonyo area in South Mugirango are yet to enlist for voter cards saying they want the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission to recruit clerks from their area.
The two clerks sent to the Otendo polling centre have been turned away severally for being ‘foreigners’.
Aatos Mogoi, speaking on their behalf, said the electoral agency failed the community by recruiting clerks from neighbouring regions.
A meeting called on Thursday to iron out the differences failed to yield fruits with the residents insisting that the clerks must be first changed.
They vowed to continue with the boycott till the commission gets to recruit new clerks from their region.
"We also have qualified sons and daughters who could had taken the job as well and they made applications only that politics played role to lock them out," Mogoi said.
Moi said the residents are ready to forgo the cards as long as the commission fails to co-operate with them.
Last week, carrying twigs and placards, the residents in their hundreds walked along the roads in the area chanting slogans against the electoral commission.
IEBC South Nyanza regional executive Sarah Ogaro however denied knowledge of skewed hiring of clerks in the area.
She said the Commission was an equal opportunity employer and whoever was shortlisted had qualified for the posts.
“They went through a due process and that is how they were ended being recruited as our clerks. We duly urge them to cooperate as the time frame given to get the cards is short so that they don’t get locked out,” she said.
