Speaking to this writer Monday morning in Kisii town, Andrew Omanga, a businessman blamed the county government for paying off fines to law contraveners, saying this encourages the operators since they do not feel the pain.

Dickson Ondiba, another resident, blamed the traffic police for allegedly collaborating and soliciting for bribes from offenders, instead of arresting them and charging them in court of law.

“The county should not pay for bodaboda operators as this encourages them,” argued Omanga.

“The police officers also have contributed to increased number of accidents since they ask for bribes from law breakers. The culprits should be charged in the court of law so that they can serve an example to others,” suggested Ondiba.

This comes after two people died instantly on Sunday night in an accident in Kisii town near Nakumatt Supermarket that involved a motorbike and two vehicles.

Kisii Central OCPD Tom Mutisya has since warned road users; more especially motorists, to observe traffic rules since their indiscipline cases were alarming.

"The accidents caused by motorbikes are alarming, and I therefore warn motorists to be wary of their business, otherwise the law will not spare them,” warned Mutisya.

The motorist is said to have overtook carelessly near Nakumatt supermarket, along the Kisii-Migori highway, falling in the process before he was ran over by the lorry and died instantly.

Their remains were taken to Kisii Referral morgue.
