The residents constituting of landlords from the region say they have been paying extraordinary amount of money since March, something that has made them to suspect foul play.

They said that they received questionable electricity bills in April, in which some of them were to pay up to Sh15,000 bills for a house that they used to pay at most Sh4,000 per month.

On Wednesday, their leader, Mr Nicholas Omare, asked the KPLC management to investigate the issue and punish junior workers who are suspected to be behind the scheme.

“It is so sad that even after putting circuit breakers on my metre box, I had to pay an extra Sh11,000 to settle the bills. None of my tenants is using a heavy appliance that can hike the bills,” Mr Omare said.

“We want the management to investigate the issue and bring the culprits to book because we suspect these figures are inflated. They are unrealistic and we are ready to substantiate that. We have written to the management and even annexed part of the evidence,” he said.

KLPC Kisii region assistant manager Noah Birgen confirmed having received the claims from the consumers and promised to expedite the investigations into the allegations to get the truth.

“It is true I have received a complaint letter but I can’t give more details. The company will investigate and find out the credibility of the claims,” Mr Birgen said.
