The rare but shocking trend has caught many victims unaware making them lose their phones and tablets in the hands conmen.

One of the victims, Peris Nyaboke narrates how she lost her Alcatel tablet after the technician she had given her tablet to replace the phone’s screen went missing.

“I was shocked when I went to check on my tablet only to find that the Fundi had relocated to unknown place, since then his phone number is unreachable,” narrated Nyaboke.

Nyaboke said that conmen are very challenging to identify since they present themselves as qualified, honest and reliable individuals.

Another victim Jack Makau, a student at Kisii University also recounts how his Huawei C5 mobile phone was sold secretly as he was held waiting for three months by one of the Fundis in the town.

“I was told to wait for three months since, according to the Fundi, phone had been taken to Nairobi for its processor to be allegedly replaced and only to realise later that the phone was sold to my fellow student by the Fundi,” claimed Makau.

Makau appealed to relevant authorities to cross-examine rogue technicians to save innocent citizens who are vulnerable and are unsuspecting those kind of people in the town.

Confirming the incident Kisii Police Boss Simon Kiragu warned conmen who have taken advantage of their customers’ ignorance to manipulate them that they will be arrested and taken to Law Courts.

“It is unethical for any business individual to manipulate customers and I am warning them to stop the trend because once caught the law will take its course,” said Kiragu.

He further advised members of the public to be reporting such cases which will help the Police to follow them up.
