Residents of Kisii County working in Kisii town have protested lack of good rental houses in Kisii.
The residents among them workers at Kisii County on Wednesday said landlords in the region are doing too little to upgrade their houses.
Led by Jared Oremo, an advocate they said many people have been forced to live in areas far from town due to lack of comfortable rental houses.
“I stay at Nyatieko where I found to be comfortable because houses within Kisii town are poorly maintained and lack water. Landlords need to do something to improve on their houses because they get monthly rent from tenants,” he said.
A county employee, Joel Okemwa said he travels daily from his home in Etago to Kisii town for work because there is no ideal house to live in.
“I decided to travel from home daily to work because I lacked a house to live in within town. Most of the available houses are not self-contained, bad toilets, lack of water and muddy roads,” he said.
Maureen Wangeci, a salonist in Kisii town said she rented a house at Nyakoe area because she preferred it than Kisii town.
“Most houses are constructed in areas near sewage lines. I didn’t like them at all. In fact, most people prefer living in Gesonso, Nyakoe, Mosocho, Suneka, Nyatieko, Ogembo and Keumbu,” she said.
