Speaking to the press during the launch of the campaign held at Nyamache Green stadium in Bobasi, Agriculture Executive Vincent Sagwe said that the campaign was aimed at ensuring that the locals are encouraged to venture into fish farming.

"We know fish farming has recently increased greatly the food security in this county. Malnutrition still remains a big challenge in this county and fish has been proven to be very rich in micro nutrients, essential fatty acids, and also proteins," Sagwe said.

Sagwe said that the county government wants to increase the number of fish farmers in the county.

"Currently, Kisii County has 2,866 fish farmers and 3,115 fish ponds which are fully operational. We want this number to increase by the end of the year," Sagwe said.

The Agriculture Executive said that the county government has gone an extra mile to put up measures that will sustain and also increase the income of fish farmers by funding the construction of the fresh fish market which will also have a cold storage in Kisii municipal market at a cost of Sh 5.9 million.
