According to the residents who spoke to this writer on Tuesday, the move to install cancer fighting machines would cut the costs of looking for the same service outside the County.

"I am so much happy for our government for advancing the only referral hospital in the region to offer medical service for cancer patients,” said Musa Nyayiemi, a businessman in Kisii town.

“There is no need to seek cancer service at Eldoret or Nairobi if we will have the services offered here,” said Juvinet Ongeri, a cancer patient from Nyanchwa, in the outskirts of Kisii town.

“I have spent a lot of money to get the service over my condition outside Kisii, and therefore I am happy that am going to get it at the door step,” she added.

On his visit to Kisii over the weekend, Deputy President William Ruto promised that Kisii Referral Hospital would receive Sh720 million for upgrade of facilities, while Gucha Hospital of Keroka would be upgraded to a Level 4 Hospital at a cost of Sh320 million.
