Police in Kisii town are pursuing a group of suspected gangsters who allegedly assaulted and robbed residents’ properties worth millions of shillings on Tuesday night.
According to some of the victims, gangsters, who were allegedly armed with machetes and pistols, descended on Kisii central apartments, ordering occupants to lie down before looting property ranging from TV screens to other household items.
They also claimed that a number of people were robbed undisclosed amount of money by the gangsters, who threatened to shoot and kill whoever defied their orders.
“Many of us lost household properties and money to them. They were heavily armed and therefore it was cumbersome for us to resist their moves,” said Boniface Ombiro.
“They were in black masks and their number ranged from 10-15. They issued threats and this scared us a lot since some had pistols,” he added.
But Kisii OCPD Tom Mutisya has urged victims to give police time to investigate the incident and apprehend those who planned and executed it.
“The matter was reported to us early today and investigations are ongoing. I would like to appeal to residents with information that can allow us to expose these people to report to the police station and give the information,” he said.
“It is important for them to remain calm as we pursue these criminals. The town has been generally quiet and we cannot allow few elements to disturb our peace,” he added.
