According to Kamagambo Sub-county Health Officer Daniel Otieno, there have been cases of Cholera reported in Rongo, and so far, seven people have died and 80 others hospitalized following the outbreak in Migori County.

He also urged residents to avoid using water from rivers in the area that have their tributaries from the Rongo area, since it may have been contaminated as a result of human activities, causing the outbreak.

“Everyone should know the symptoms of cholera and whenever you see someone with the symptoms you should immediately seek medication from specialized personnel,” said Otieno.

“We all know cholera is an acute intestinal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium and It has a short incubation period, from less than one day to five days,” added Otieno.

He also added that the disease has posed a threat to both counties, and all residents should have the required hygiene standards.
