A section of Kisii locals have supported the move by the national government to have Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps closed.
They say the move is important in protecting its citizens from terrorists.
“We have been hospitable long enough despite the risk the refugees pose to our country. We have been patient enough despite the many challenges we have gone through as most of the terrorists pose as refugees and plan on their attack through this camps,” Harisson Momanyi said.
“It's time the refugees go back to their own countries and establish themselves there. They will never grow if they keep staying in the camps waiting for aid,” said Martin Nyangau.
Activists have however condemned the move to close the camps, saying it is infringing on the rights of the refugees.
“The government should however ensure the safety of the refugees by working with their respective government so that they find a way of helping them out but should ultimately close the camp which has always been a security threat,” another resident, Mogaka Nyambane, said.
