Kisii Mwembe Estate residents have been urged to dispose waste responsibly to avoid the outbreak of disease especially during rainy season.
According to Kisii county Head of Operational Services Jared Okinyi in recent weeks mattresses, polythene papers, plastics furniture and bags of rubbish have been dumped at sites and the inclusion of incorrect material in recycling bins has led to whole collections being sent for disposal rather than recycling.
He added that the county’s cleaning team is visiting some sites every day to clear up the unwanted materials that are thoughtlessly discarded.
“The residents in the area and Kisii County at large are at risk of various diseases if they continue to carelessly dispose the waste at unspecified places,” said Okinyi.
Okinyi added that residents should take their unwanted waste to their nearest household waste and recycling centre at Mwembe Road to Kisii town.
“We will be very strict so that we ensure the town and its environs are clean and for those who will not adhere to the rules will be prosecuted,” said Okinyi.
