A section of parents, who were escorting their children back to school after April holiday, complained of rotten behavior in the matatu sector.

They said that drivers and conductors use obnoxious language that causes shame among the parents and their children and any other respectful persons.

They have called on the transport sector to educate the matatu operators on how they should relate with clients or else they demonstrate.

“I am very disappointed by the matatu operators especially the drivers and conductors; Today morning, I boarded a Nissan matatu headed to Kisii town from Keroka to escort my daughter, and what came from the conductor’s mouth could not make you want to raise your head or engage your ear,” Joseph Ongeri, a parent from Masimba posed.

He continued, “He was abusing a customer on disagreement of how much she could pay. He finally threw her out of the vehicle at Birongo and she was hurt. When we tried to complain on the incident, the driver intervened on the conductor’s defense.”

Ongeri added that, “Both of them engaged us with loutish words, and finally the driver tricked us that the vehicle had encountered a mechanical problem. When we alighted at Keumbu, he ran away with his conductor leaving us stranded and we had to incur extra cost by taking another vehicle to town.”

Another parent who was among the passengers in the same vehicle, threatened to lobby other passengers to paralyze transport in the major roads plying Kisii Keroka, so that the matatu operators can end their bad behavior.

“We have witnessed the same behavior for a long time. These are our sons but they have no respect and do not mind the language they use while dealing with passengers. It is high time we as passengers rise and not only condemn the rotten behavior among the matatu operators, but demonstrate so that they can see we are aggrieved,” Mary Nyanchama, a parent from Mochenwa in Nyamira County suggested.

This happens a day after a section Nyamira County parents who were escorting their children to school on Monday, the schools opening day, complained of the same menace and asked the matatu operators to observe ethics in their business.
