Kisii County Commissioner Chege Mwangi has aired his disappointment with the low uptake of loans in the county.
Mwangi said that local residents still cling to negative mindset towards loans with majority of them associating loans to auctioning of one's land and property if they failed to repay.
Speaking at his office after receiving the CEO of the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority Patrick Mwangi who paid him a courtesy call, Mwangi reminded area residents that the Government had initiated several specialised credit schemes targeting both women and youth but much of the funds meant to empower women and youth were still lying in the accounts of financial intermediaries unused.
"It is worrying that Government funds channelled to this region through financial intermediaries are still in the accounts of those institutions as majority of the prospective beneficiaries avoid going for such funds to economically empower themselves," stated Mwangi.
Mwangi encouraged area residents to go for the Government-sponsored loans instead of having such funds lying idle in the financial intermediaries' accounts.
