Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi has challenged county residents to channel their grievances through Members of county assembly for considerations by the executives.

Speaking at his backyard at Bomachoge Chache constituency on Sunday, Maangi wondered the influx of people at the county government offices channeling complaints even with the presence of elected MCAs from their respective regions.

He said the MCAs were paid by tax payers money to represent them effectively in the assembly by coming up with proposals that would be implemented by the executive.

“We have a way the new system works. Sometimes it really amuses me that many of us travel to Kisii town to register complaints yet we have MCAs who should do the job. They are paid to represent you so that must be put on toes to do their work. It’s not really proper that you travel all the way to county headquarters,” he said.

Maangi also challenged Members of county assembly to be constantly in their areas of representation so that they are easily accessed by electorates.

“Also, channeling grievances cannot work if representatives are not continuously in their area of representation. They too have to set time aside to visit their regions and interact with people to know immediate and long-term needs so that they can be factored in the budget,” he added.

Maangi did not either spare the County Executive committee members as he challenged them to ensure projects were fast-tracked in the rural areas to ensure the county government succeeded in implementation a number of 2013 election promises.
