Kisii County residents have been urged to plant more trees in order to improve the county’s socio-economic development as needed.
According to Kisii County Environmental Director Charles Mose, the plantation will highly help the county gain its beauty and ensure the county maintains its cool climate for a long period.
Speaking on Monday after leading a tree-planting exercise, Mose extensively urged residents to plant more trees on their farms to improve their livelihoods.
“Planting of trees would ensure socio-economic growth of the county through increasing material for use, commercial values, soil fertility and conservation,” said Mose.
He also challenged Kisii County farmers to stop complaining of hunger and increase economic activities such as tree and crop growing, which he said, will promote food security.
He added that the county has a long-term plan of supplying the residents with trees that cannot affect their crops and those that are able to grow in a few years.
“The county has already put in strategies to get more trees planted by mid 2015 and we are going to supply the residents with trees which will not affect their farming in the area,” added Mose.
