Kisii residents have been urged to venture into fish farming as one way of improving the agriculture sector within the county.

Speaking on Tuesday at his office county cooperative commissioner Mr Vincent Kenyariri advised residents to take up fish farming for economic growth and empowerment.

Kenyariri said fish farming is easy to be ventured in when residents decide to come together and have some dams where they can put fingerlings for more  production.

He added that fish farming will have good returns more so in Kisii County were the demand is high.

“We are encouraging residents to embrace fish farming since through it the county will be able to tackle poverty and unemployment which  is said  to be rampant in this area," said Kenyariri.

He added that they have set measures in which they will use in aid of helping those who venture to fish farming.

“We are setting measures in which the government will provide adequate funds which will be used in supporting the groups, hence we are encouraging residents to venture into fish farming," added Kenyariri.

The commissioner also said that in Kisii there are many places which are favorable practice fish farming, for instance, he said that in Bobasi there is a dam which can produce more fish if taken to consideration.

“Our county is rich and unless we embrace fish farming it is then that we can empower ourselves even more, we need to venture into activities which will develop us," he said.
