The residents preferred this instead of paying the National Health Insurance Fund (N.H.I.F) for a few people in the county.

Speaking in Nyanguru village on Tuesday in Kisii County during the burial of Elder Meshack Mageto, Politician Rael Otundo raised the concerns after the monthly charges amount for the NHIF rose from Sh150 to Sh500 adding that many people would not be able to pay the amount.

Otundo said that if the county government goes ahead with plan, it will cost the county government up to Sh250 million every financial year.

“We have the National Health Insurance Fund has been increased now and the monthly charge is now at 500 shillings for the lowest earning and I know many people cannot afford to pay such an amount and the county government is now coming up with a scheme to pay for forty thousand people and the question I want to ask is how they will select the forty thousand people,” she said.

She also added that the Sh250 million is enough money to buy medicine for all the hospitals in Kisii County to benefit all the residents instead of paying for only 40 thousand people.
