This comes a day after two individuals were arrested on Saturday for allegedly spreading false information that Al Shabaab was planning to attack the main bus stage and other leading supermarkets in the town.

The two, who were identified as Peter Moriasi and Kelvin Ochanda, were apprehended by the police at Jogoo estate and will be arraigned in court on Monday to face charges on spreading propaganda.

On Sunday, County Commissioner Chege Mwangi asked area residents to avoid living in fear over terror alerts since security had been beefed up in the town and its environs.

He gave a stern warning for those spreading unverified information to the public, causing fear and anxiety unnecessarily.

“Our town is very safe and nobody can be allowed to cause chaos and uncertainty. The police are doing their job hence no one should worry over security,” he said.

“Those spreading rumours and propaganda like the two boys who were arrested have no room in our society. The law shall take its course and there is no question about that,” Mwangi added.

He asked members of the business community to execute their duties without fear since everything was under the control of the police besides asking school heads not to fear opening their institutions.

“People should carry out there business as usual because police are in control.  The propaganda mongers will be dealt with in case they try to bring tension. Teachers should also feel safe to report back to school next week,” he said.
