This comes after concerns were raised by health experts from the region over accelerated dumping of litter in River Gucha, the largest river in the region.

On Saturday, County Deputy health Director Clara Momanyi said measures were in place to regulate water pollution in the region, by imposing stiffer rules to those found liable with the offense in collaboration with the Ministry of environment.

“I have reached my colleagues on the environment and we are working around the clock to ensure this menace has been curbed. This will involve imposing strict rules to those found polluting our water sources,” she said.

She urged provincial administration, led by chiefs to ensure those contaminating River Gucha waters are apprehended and arraigned in court to face charges over promoting health hazards in the region.

“This is not the work of only the Ministries of Health and Environment. I urge the provincial administration through the chiefs to chip in and help us deal with the menace. Culprits should be apprehended and taken to court,” she said.

Momanyi also asked local residents especially those living along river banks to embrace sanity by observing the environmental cleanliness.

“As residents, you should not wait to be coerced to ensure sanity in the environment. It is your responsibility to ensure that our water banks are safe from environmental pollution. You should not wait for the law to take its cause,” she said.
