According to the witnesses, the fire whose cause has not yet been unraveled razed up two dormitories in the night and one during the day before fire extinguishers from Kisii town arrived at the school.

“The fire broke out on Tuesday night and burnt down two dormitories with one burning down on Wednesday during the day. We’re lucky it did not cause any fatalities because a night tragedy of that kind can easily cause deaths of serious injuries,” Jared Ombuna, a neighbour and parent of the school said.

The school Principal Zachary Nyariki confirmed the incident and said they were forced to close the school so that they can normalise the situation first before students resume their studies.

“I don’t want to speculate that it was an electricity fault that caused the fire. Investigations are underway to establish the cause. We were forced to close the school so that we can get things back to normal before calling the students to continue with their studies,” the principal said.

He added: “There were no fatalities in the tragedy. The students only lost their stationeries and beddings in the fire.”
